In 2002 Gateshead Libraries led a unique 2 year digitisation project to promote access to the region’s music. Working with The Sage Gateshead, Newcastle University and a wide range of museums and archives across the region we set out to digitise audio clips, notation, songs and photographs from the 17th century onwards. The results are available through the Farne web site at www.folknortheast.com You can also find beginners guides to the instruments and styles of the region, and Farne radio - giving an overview of some of the region’s most distinguished traditional musicians.
