Gateshead Dispensary

Gateshead Dispensary was founded by the Rev John Collinson and William Henry Brockett (editor of the Gateshead Observer) to provide medical care for the sick poor. It was founded as a result of an outbreak of Asiatic cholera in 1831 which broke out in Bottle Bank. The dispensary opened in 1855 using Joseph Willis Swinburne’s offices.
