Gateshead Heritage @ St Mary’s has received a prestigious gold medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The Council designed centre was one of three gold award winners at the Royal Institute of British Architects Northern Network Awards held last month.
The transformation of the former St Mary’s church into an impressive heritage centre saw our design team create a building capable of meeting all the needs of modern visitors whilst fitting in seamlessly with the historic nature of the building. And it was this, together with the quality of the work that impressed the RIBA judges.
Two other Council-led architecture schemes – the revamped Gateshead Central Library and a redesign of work space at Gateshead Civic Centre were shortlisted, with the Gateshead Central Library receiving a bronze award, well-deserved recognition.
