In recent years we have installed over 180 computers in all our libraries. They are there for you to use. You have full access to the worldwide web. This means you can browse a vast range of information, including sound and video, as well as contacting your friends and family by E-mail.

We also have Microsoft Office software which includes word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation packages. At least one computer at each library has a flatbed scanner that lets you transfer images onto the computer. Using the Microsoft Publisher software, you can then add these to pages to create your own publications.

The computer service and worldwide web access are free, but we need to charge for printouts - 10p per A4 sheet for black, 50p per sheet for colour.

To use the computer service and the Internet, all you need to do is join the library and agree to the terms and conditions of the service. Bring along proof of your identity - something with your address such as a posted bill - and you can join on the spot. (If you're under 16, bring a parent as well.)

Your Library Card

If you've signed up to use the library computers, your library card is the key to these.

Whether you're a Junior or Adult member, this is for your own personal use only. Please treat it like a credit card - never give it to anyone else, or let them see the PIN. Remember, you are liable for all items borrowed and computer use on it.

Booking a Computer

You can book a computer for an hour at a time by just asking a member of staff to do this for you.

Once you have logged on, you can make future bookings just by clicking the appropriate button on screen, typing your ticket number and PIN into the booking system, and then giving the date and time that you want to book.
