Core Tunes - Three tune histories in detail.
Core Tunes - Three tune histories in detail.
In this section Matt Seattle describes the development of three well known Northumbrian melodies Rattlin Roarin Willie, Sir John Fenwick and Bobby Shaftoe. These three carefully researched articles draw heavily on the FARNE archive to illustrate the fascinating histories which they contain. Individual archive items, although fascinating in themselves, achieve a far greater significance when read in the context of other items. Cross referencing from one item to another across geographical boundaries and historical divisions, one is able to see many as yet unwritten histories.

There is also an article written by Mike Hirst which tells the story of another well known Northumbrian melody - Morpeth Rant - which uses both audio and visual resources from the FARNE archive.
