For those who were lucky enough hear
Willy Taylor play, whether for concert, or for dancing, his crisp, rhythmic fiddle playing remains quintessentially Northumbrian.
Willy Taylor toured widely in the 1980s along with
Will Atkinson (mouthorgan) and
Joe Hutton (Northumbrian pipes). The trio became affectionately known as
The Shepherds, a reflection of a lifetime spent rearing livestock high in the Northumbrian hills.
On this recording, made at Newcastleton Festival, Prizewinners' Concert, 1972 we hear Willie Taylor displaying his very obvious skills as a master of the traditional fiddle in this lively competition tune set.
