Our Sounds Northern weekly regional audio magazine is posted out on Thursday and received by listeners on Friday. The first side contains 30 minutes of news from the north-east region, mainly the kind of items that make up the inside pages of an ordinary newspaper, and that you probably wouldn't find on the radio or television. Around half of them are local news items focussing on the Gateshead area. There's also a look ahead at the weekend weather, and information on audio-described screenings at local cinemas.
Sounds Northern often features interviews about people, events or places of interest. Below is an interview in which AIRS presenter Karen Aynsley talks to Julia Mitford of ExploreMusic about the first twelve months of this unique music information and library service, based in The Sage Gateshead.

The second side of Sounds Northern includes our What's On slot, a roundup of the coming week's entertainment, with a selection of concerts and shows on at regional venues such as The Sage Gateshead. We also feature items and interviews of local interest, for example the life and times of Thomas Bewick, or a visit to a nearby landmark such as Penshaw Monument.
